3-5 Year Old Childcare

Pre-School Richmond

Our pre-school is a myriad of activity, there is so much for the children to explore and learn about.  They get to do this in their own time, at their own pace, no pressure. We encourage a multi-sensorial approach to learning which is child led.

We approach our planning to the learning areas to also meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).  It is based on ongoing observation and assessment of the children within the three prime areas of learning; communication and language, physical development, personal, social and emotional development and four specific areas of learning; literacy, mathematics, understanding the world, expressive arts and design.

Alongside this, we closely follow the principles of Dr Maria Montessori who saw that children learnt best by doing and that happy self-motivated learners form positive images of themselves as confident, successful people. She created specially designed resources to foster independence and a love for learning from an early age.

The Montessori approach is holistic and aims to develop the whole child. Fundamental to the approach is the belief that a child's early years from birth to age six are the period when they have the greatest capacity to learn.

We assist the local schools in the children’s transition from nursery to primary school, enabling visits from teachers to meet children in their familiar environment to assisting with visits to local schools. This is a big step in any child’s life and we want to make it a smooth journey.

In our preschool we promote school readiness and independence through our daily routines and wide range of activities. We observe the children's development by observing them as they explore, whilst expressing their own interests. It is important that we use these observations to track your child's learning and development following the EYFS. We have access to a vast outdoor area which we use daily as we explore the natural world around us. It's necessary for us to have a strong connection with the local schools to support our children's transitions from nursery to school. As part of this we work closely with the teachers, inviting them in to the nursery so they can spend some time bonding with your child in an environment that is familiar to them, to ensure a smooth transition.

Positive and emotional experiences that occur between your child and their teacher represent the foundation for the social and emotional development.
